6th Grade Students Map the Call of the Wild Journey

+Melissa Johnston's 6th Grade Language Arts class used Google Maps in conjunction with their class novel, Call of the Wild by Jack London. Students mapped the journey of the main character (Buck) from his home in California to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. Students were able to visualize the route described in the novel and understand the significance of each place in relationship to the events of the story and Buck’s transformation from a civilized dog to a primitive beast. In addition, the students were able to provide commentary about the main character’s development and find textual evidence to support their claims.
