Defense Attorney Explains the Trial Process to 5th Grade

In preparation for a mock trial, students in Mrs. Russell’s and Mrs. McElroy’s 5th Grade classes conducted a Google Hangout with a federal defense lawyer, John McElroy.  Mr. McElroy explained the different parties in a trial (the defense, the prosecution, the judge), jury selection, and the different phases of a trial.  Additionally, he shared his personal experiences and related them to the impending class case, where the students will try Kit Tyler, the protagonist from the book that they have read (The Witch of Blackbird Pond), for witchcraft. +Amy McElroy
